If you are born of the Spirit from above, you should have no problem with qualifying your dreams, visions and prophesies according to HIS Word to make sure that what you are experiencing is truly from YHWH!
The reason that this is so important is because we also find in the Scriptures references to “lying signs and wonders” (2Thess 2:9 & Rev 16:13) that will be taking place in the last days which the devil will try to use to deceive any/all that he can.
With that in mind it is important for you to establish who it is that you serve when it comes to such things as dreams, visions, words of knowledge, prophecy, etc.
There are over 500 references found in the Scriptures to words like “dream(s), vision(s), prophet, prophetess, prophecy, prophesy,” etc. We see clearly in these references that the LORD uses supernatural means to speak to people. Not all of the people that YHWH spoke to through these manifestations were believers or followers of HIS Truth, and not all of the supernatural manifestations mentioned in the Scriptures are from HIM! Again, that is why having that relationship with HIM, according to HIS Word, is so important!
We see in the first book of the Bible that dreams were given as well as the gift of interpretation of those dreams, as seen in Genesis 37-41. In the book of Daniel we also see that YHWH sometimes gives a dream prophetically (foretelling events before they happen), and that Daniel likens it to a vision. So in Daniel we see dreams, visions and prophecy used synonymously!
Paul refers to supernatural gifts in 1Corinthians 12:8 “for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit”, (and in verse 10) “prophecy” which confirms that YHWH would continue to use these supernatural expressions in and through HIS New Covenant people!
There are biblical premises that one moving in these gifts must be aware of and submitted to in order to be protected from the evil one, as well as to honor YHWH and HIS Word.
1. What the person says in the name of YHWH, must never be in an attempt to steer the hearers away from YHWH and HIS Commandments / Word.
Deuteronomy 13:1-5 “If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, 2and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’—which you have not known—‘and let us serve them,’ 3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. 5But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has spoken in order to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the house of bondage, to entice you from the way in which the LORD your God commanded you to walk. So you shall put away the evil from your midst.”
2. What the person speaks in the Name of the LORD must (100%) come to pass.
Deuteronomy 18:20-22 “But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’ 21And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’— 22when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.” (or her, if it is a prophetess speaking)
3. He/she must be in submission to his/her authority.
1Corinthians 11:3-5 “But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. 5But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved.” (Note: This is not referring to wearing a head covering. It is in reference to not shaming your ordained “head” by not being in submission to HIM.)
1Corinthians 14:29 “Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge.” (The Spirit of YHWH is submitted in character and nature)
So, according to HIS Word, if you are having dreams or visions and/or are being moved to share words of prophecy, knowledge, wisdom, discernment, etc. and these things come to pass 100%… and your life is committed to pointing folks to the GOD of the Bible and to HIS Word… and you are in submission to HIS ordained authority and HIS Word… then I believe that it is safe to say that what you are expressing is most likely from the LORD!
May you be blessed as you seek to serve and be used by HIM!
